Animal Fight: Mascot Matchups

What if the animal mascots from the 2007 NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament were pitted against each other? We've set up an animal-fight tournament, which is now down to the championship match. Vote for the animal you think would win in a fight!

Elite Eight

Tiger vs. Bear

The tiger is quick and likes to ambush, but the bear has the weight advantage.

Gator vs. Yellow Jackets

It's lots of teeth against lots of stingers. Ouch.

Wild Boar vs. Rattlesnake

The boar could impale the snake on its tusks -- if it doesn't get bitten first.

Turkey vs. Badger

Turkeys are fast and have spurs on each leg, but badgers are fierce fighters.

Sweet Sixteen: Surf Against Turf

Panther vs. Gator

The black panther weighs in at an average of 120 pounds and is armed with razor sharp, inch-long claws. The average male gator is 13 to 14 feet long and has 75 to 80 teeth.

Sweet Sixteen: Bees and Knees

Terrapin vs. Yellow Jacket

At five to seven inches, the diamond- back terrapin dwarfs a yellow jacket and has a strong defensive shell. Yellow jackets are aggressive wasps whose stings deliver a dose of venom.

Sweet Sixteen: Bark or Bite?

Great Dane vs. Badger

Great Danes can grow to 3 feet tall, and weigh up to 200 pounds. Badgers are fierce fighters with loose skin: If bitten on the back, they can turn around to claw and bite back.

Sweet Sixteen: Turduck-in

Duck vs. Turkey

Male wild turkeys have a 2-inch spur on each leg and can run up to 25 mph. Mallards weigh only three pounds, but as the most common duck in the world, they have a lot of friends to call.

Sweet Sixteen: Don't Tread on Me

Bulldog vs. Rattlesnake

Dogs kill between 18 and 19 people per year in the United States. Snake bites take out an additional five to 10 Americans. Which hunter will become the hunted?

Sweet Sixteen: Tusk Against Horn

Ram vs. Wild Boar

Rams can grow to nearly 300 pounds and run 32 mph. Male wild boars have four continuously growing tusks and can be as large as 770 pounds.

Sweet Sixteen: Battle for the Market

Bear vs. Longhorn

A "bruin" (brown or grizzly bear) can grow to be a 900-pound, 7-foot-tall monster. Longhorns can weigh over a ton, with horns as large as 6 feet, tip to tip.

Sweet Sixteen: Feline Faceoff

Tiger vs. Lion

With huge claws and teeth, a mature male tiger can weigh 600 pounds and measure 12 feet long. Male lions weigh up to 530 pounds and have a roar that can be heard five miles away.
