What: Hispanic Heritage Month


When: From September 15 to October 15


Why: To celebrate the anniversary of Latin America'sIndependence from Spain. Central America (Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua) gained its freedom from Spain on September 15, 1821. Mexico gained its independence the next day, and Chile on September 18.


Who: The term Hispanic refers to Spanish-speaking people in the United States of any race.
